Found old packing tape that turned white/powdery underneath. Did it dry out? Is it mold? botulism?
I found this on an old desk-chair in my office. I've been totally paranoid about botulism lately and seeing something that looked like biological growth in what could be an air-tight environment did not help.
After a while, tape kind of decomposes to where the sticky stuff just gets all hard and brittle. Especially packing tape, masking tape, and cellophane tape. Don't worry about it. Just throw it away.
