How to re-prep painted wall after air bubbles form?
I've never seen this before - started painting the master bedroom. Somehow I ended up with dozens of air bubbles. Think the roller pad might be wrong type or too thick. Anyway, how do I remove the air bubbles and reprep this wall? I tried a sand block and it's stripping off all of the paint - leaving holes in the fresh coat of paint where the air bubbles were. I will have to use joint compound on these holes and resand - is there an easier way? 2nd question - how do I avoid having this happen when I repaint the wall?
Your roller may be too thick, or you could have tried rolling the paint on too quickly. This also may happen if you are covering the wall with a different type of paint. Hard to tell without seeing it.
Did the bubbles pop on the wall and leave "craters"? If so, dab a bit of joint compound in the area with your finger. Allow it to dry, then knock it down if necessary with a slightly damp cloth.
If you have bubbles that didn't pop and are still raised, take a pin and pop them. Dab with joint compound as necessary and follow directions as above.
I'm sorry, but there is no quick fix for this. I would suggest using a good primer over all the surfaces to be painted. A primer will not only help the paint adhere better, but it will may also help smooth out the areas that are less than perfect.
Good luck!
